Set in the decaying architecture of a former Soviet sanatorium in Tskaltubo, Quartett c-moll Nr. 56 follows a solitary figure as he moves silently through a vast, derelict building—once designed for collective healing and state-orchestrated rest. The camera observes without intervention. Natural light filters through dust-laced windows; long corridors, dining halls, and a theatre room unfold as spatial thresholds rather than narrative scenes.
Accompanied only by a stray dog and the quiet choreography of his own movement, the protagonist traverses emptied institutional spaces now suspended between purpose and abandonment. The film culminates in a sealed room where hundreds of locusts erupt into sound. A slow gaze shifts from the interior toward the overgrown garden outside, framed by rotting windowpanes. A string quartet lingers faintly in the background—a memory, or a counterpoint.
